Spitfire Sawfly Grubs

The leaf-eating larvae of Pergid wasps. They spit eucalyptus oil at you if you disturb them.

Some species will gather in their thousands, tapping away to each other on the leaves, but even the two (or quite possibly three) species I've seen so far this summer are doing their best to defoliate the host tree.
